CMIP5 and CMIP6 Model Projection Comparison for Hydrological Impacts Over North America

چکیده

A warmer climate impacts streamflows and these changes need to be quantified assess future risk, vulnerability, implement efficient adaptation measures. The simulations from the fifth phase of Coupled Model Intercomparison Project (CMIP5), which have been basis most such assessments over past decade, are being gradually superseded by more recent Phase 6 (CMIP6). Our study portrays added value CMIP6 ensemble CMIP5 in a first North America wide comparison using 3,107 catchments. Results show reduced spread compared for temperature precipitation projections. In terms flow indicators, driven hydrological projections result smaller mean high values, except mountainous areas. Overall, we that provides narrower band uncertainty projections, bringing confidence impact studies.

Stationarity of the tropical pacific teleconnection to North America in CMIP5/PMIP3 model simulations

[1] The temporal stationarity of the teleconnection between the tropical Pacific Ocean and North America (NA) is analyzed in atmosphere-only, and coupled last-millennium, historical, and control runs from the Coupled Model Intercomparison Project Phase 5 data archive. The teleconnection, defined as the correlation between DecemberJanuary-February (DJF) tropical Pacific sea surface temperatures ...

Anthropogenic impacts on mosquito populations in North America over the past century

The recent emergence and spread of vector-borne viruses including Zika, chikungunya and dengue has raised concerns that climate change may cause mosquito vectors of these diseases to expand into more temperate regions. However, the long-term impact of other anthropogenic factors on mosquito abundance and distributions is less studied. Here, we show that anthropogenic chemical use (DDT; dichloro...

Biophysical Impacts of Land Use Change over North America as Simulated by the Canadian Regional Climate Model

This study investigates the biophysical impacts of human-induced land use change (LUC) on the regional climate of North America, using the fifth generation Canadian Regional Climate Model (CRCM5). To this end, two simulations are performed with CRCM5 using different land cover datasets, one corresponding to the potential vegetation and the other corresponding to current land use, spanning the 1...

How well can CMIP5 simulate precipitation and its controlling processes over tropical South America?

Underestimated rainfall over Amazonia was a common problem for the Coupled Model Intercomparison Project phase 3 (CMIP3) models. We investigate whether it still exists in the CMIP phase 5 (CMIP5) models and, if so, what causes these biases? Our evaluation of historical simulations shows that some models still underestimate rainfall over Amazonia. During the dry season, both convective and large...
